……..than London, as Coastwise's Jay Nicholson described the Shetland Isles to members as part of the summer talks series.
Jay, a keen birder, wife and friends (being very patient while Jay photographed the birds) toured round the Shetland Isles. There's a huge variety of sea birds such as the Guillemot pictured R, and some of the terrestrial species are different from what we see 700 miles south.
There's also a lot of lovely scenery, and plenty of archaeology from the Stone and Early Bronze ages when this area was a centre of a strong civilisation.
