Cat Oliver, the project outreach officer for the AONB's Coastal Creatures Project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund gave a project update to Coastwise members. The project is taking shape, and will focus on :-

  • Surveying four beaches – Westward Ho!, Lee, Croyde and Combe Martin
  • A variety of training for the public
  • Local Sea Schools
  • An audit of local museum collections
  • Encouraging volunteering and work placements for all ages
  • A variety of learning materials covering wildlife and natural history, and three virtual wildlife trails that will be available on the AONB website
  • A programme of beach cleans

Coastwise will continue its strong support and involvement, which included the very recent Croyde Bioblitz, and Jim Monroe, the project manager, gave members a review of the event , which was a huge success, after Cat's talk.
For more details, see the BioBlitz tab above, where details of the final species count will be posted when they are fully compiled soon.
