Coastwise North Devon is recruiting members for a brand new weekly Our Coast course which starts at 9.45 am on 13th January in Barnstaple Library. Heading the line up of speakers are two from the media world.

Doug Anderson, a leading underwater cameraman, will be talking about his work on the forthcoming landmark BBC Natural History series, Frozen Planet. Broadcaster and naturalist, Kelvin Boot, will take Shells as his theme, to introduce the beauty and significance of adaptations to the marine environment.

Other experts in the 10 week series of talks will give their perspectives on the local marine environment, including divers, anglers and the RSPB, and there will be discussion of topical issues including marine energy.

The programme starts with an introduction to Coastwise from members on 13th January and Co-Chair Paula Ferris will explain her personal fascination with marine life in next week’s Weekly Essay in the North Devon Journal. She says “I hope to convert anyone undecided about whether to join, but I would advise anyone already interested to sign up now, as this will be a very popular programme and space in the library is limited.”
