Dog Whelks cluster together in sheltered nooks & crannies for protection from strong seas and to mate, which they do throughout the year though most commonly in the summer months. Most of the yellow capsules will contain hundreds of eggs most of which are infertile. Those that are fertile hatch into miniature adults that then feed on the infertile eggs.
